How to Create Your Own Web Page: For Windows Users
You are now in the Netscape Browser.
These instructions will show you how to create your own Web page.
Before beginning this exercise, we want you to have two Netscape windows opened.
You will use this one to read these instructions and the second one to see the
page you are creating... Here is how you open the second window:
Select "File", above, then click on "New"
and move right to select "Navigator Window".
This will open the second window. Then, get back to this Web page (use "Alt
Tab" or click on the other Netscape icon in the Windows taskbar).
To create your own Web page you have to create and save a file using a simple
Windows text editor, Notepad.
- Click on the Windows "Start" button, and select "Programs"
and then select "Accessories". Then, select Notepad to start
this exercise.
- You will now be in the Notepad editor with a blank document. Type in:
My First Homepage
The First Line of My First Homepage
- Then, save this file as first.htm. Remember where you save your
file because you need that information to open it in Netscape! (Note:
Don't close Notepad you will come back to it!)
- To view your page in Netscape, go back to the second Netscape window you
opened not long ago (click on the Netscape icon in the Windows taskbar at
the bottom of the screen or use Alt-Tab), then use the Netscape "File"
menu to select "Open Page". Now find the directory
in which you saved your file and select first.htm.
- To get back to these instructions, you again use "Alt Tab"
or the Netscape icon.
...And there you go, you have your first Web Page! Thrill?
