What a great idea to have each of us write about our lives since Caracas! I only wish I could be there in person, but my mom (soon to be 88) fell in the kitchen three weeks ago and broke her hip. She is home now but needs constant care daily. I will go over to Fallbrook when finals end here and help out until I start summer school. I am sending some photos to Mari Wilkes Filos today for everyone to see. She can send them back to me after the reunion.

Soooooo. to catch up.

We left Caracas in 1957 when I was starting 9th grade. My dad accepted a position as superintendent in the Fallbrook Elementary District in southern California. He stayed there until he retired several years ago. Both he and my mom Lois are still there, enjoying retirement. My dad will be 91 in October. Pretty amazing!! He is in general good health but is slowing down simply because his body is OLD!

My two sisters, Ginger and Celeste, were born in Caracas and were 5 and 3 when we moved to Fallbrook, Ca. They are both married and have children. They are both teachers as am I. Surprise, surprise.

After finishing high school, I went to University of California at Santa Barbara, and during that time, I spent one year studying at the University of Madrid. I graduated from UCSB in 1965. I then headed to Stanford for my Master's in Education and a high school teaching credential. I taught Spanish for five years in California and then moved to Phoenix in 1973 when my husband accepted a job here.

Tom and I were married in 1967 and am proud to report that we are still happily married. He too grew up in Venezuela, but in Maracay. Tom is a high school business teacher and also teaches part time at Glendale CC in business. I have been teaching Spanish and English as a Second Language at Glendale CC since 1973 and plan to continue teaching until 2009.

We have two children, Christy (31) and Tony (27). Tony and Tasha were married in 2001 and have just had a beautiful baby boy, Hayden Thomas, born April 29. We are first time grandparents, so you can imagine how thrilled we are!! Tony and Tasha are both teachers too! Tony is a biology teacher in high school and Tasha is a science teacher in 8th grade.

Christy and Dan were married last August and live in California. They have just bought their first house, but what they had to pay for it is unbelievable. That's California real estate, I'm told!! Christy works for "Variety", the Hollywood entertainment industry magazine, and Dan works for Travel Design, a LA area travel agency.

This is our catchup in a nut shell. Even though I can't attend, I hope you will send me copies of other catch up stories. You can email them if that is easier. I don't remember you, but I assume you were ahead of me in school. I told Rex Spivey on email that I had a HUGE crush on him in school. Of course he had no idea because I was younger. I hope someone will take a picture of him and send it to me! Thanks for all your effort in getting the reunion together. Tanya and Mari also deserve medals!!
