Incidentally, my dad, Carlos Ordonez, designed the Escuela Campo Alegre in Las Mercedes. He was an architect with Creole Petroleum Corp.
An early vivid memory of mine: When I was in the second grade, the President of Venezuela, Delgado Chalbaud, was kidnapped and murdered down the hill from our school in a house that was under construction. We were on the playground and, once the news hit, we were rushed into the school building. Parents were phoned to pick us and any friends up immediately. I think most of us children suddenly realized that there was a bigger (and scarier) world out there...
